PKR questions Nizar's candidature for Changkat Jering

PKR questions Nizar's candidature for Changkat Jering
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) today questioned PAS' announcement of Perak PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as its candidate for the PKR-held seat of Changkat Jering in the next general election.

Perak PKR chairman Dr Mohd Nor Manuty said PKR had agreed to PAS contesting the seat on condition that PAS replace it with a winnable seat for PKR.

However, there had been no decision on the seat to be exchanged, he said.

"Why did PAS make the announcement without arriving at an official decision?" he said when contacted.

Mohd Nor said the distribution of the 59 state seats in Perak among the Pakatan Rakyat pact parties remained the same as in 2008, with PKR getting 20 seats, PAS, 21, and DAP, 18.

Yesterday, Perak PAS commissioner Abu Bakar Hussain, at a 'ceramah' (talk) in Air Kuning, announced Mohammad Nizar's candidature.

In the general election in 2008, Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu won the Changkat Jering seat for the PKR by beating Datuk Mat Isa Ismail of the Barisan Nasional (BN) by a majority of 1,102 votes.

The following year, Mohd Osman opted to become an independent.

Mohammad Nizar is currently the state assemblyman for Pasir Panjang and MP for Bukit Gantang.
