Police confirm ex-MNLF commander shot dead

The Sulu ‘general' killed by security forces last week has been confirmed as former Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) commander Haji Musa, Sabah police chief Hamza Taib said today.

NONE"I would like to confirm that there was a (Sulu) ‘general' named Haji Musa who was shot to death by the security forces at Tanjung Batu," Hamza (right)told a press conference at Felda Sahabat Beach Resort in Lahad Datu today.

The ‘general' of the armed intruders was reportedly killed in a firefight in Tanjung Batu last Thursday.

Malaysian security forces have successfully recovered 22 bodies of the members of the self-styled ‘Sulu royal army' as of yesterday. Musa's body was sent to the Lahad Datu Hospital for a post-mortem.
Today, Hamza said that they had found another dead body last night, thus coming up to a total of 23 corpses that have since been recovered by the security forces.

“We will still continue the effort to recover the bodies until we recover all of them.

Reclaiming back Tanjung Batu

“Because if we didn’t recover all the bodies at Tanjung Batu, it will be hard for us to reclaim back Tanjung Batu,” he said.

azlanHamza once again reminded the public not to enter the ‘Ops Daulat’ operation zone, and to provide any related information they can to help the security forces.

It has been reported that nine corpsesof the members of the armed militants were discovered at Kampung Tanduo, resulting from a gun battle with the Malaysian security forces on March 1 with twelve casualties on their side.

Hamza added that they had since received information that there are a total of 15 corpses currently and had sent his field commander to verify this matter.

“But the bodies won’t be taken out because they have become highly decomposed. So even if we take them out, they are meaningless for us,” he claimed.

NONEHe noted that the operation is still ongoing at Tanjung Batu and Kampung Sungai Bilis, both near Kampung Tanduo, although there has been no gun fight with the Sulu army for the past 24 hours.

However, the villagers of Kampung Tanduo are still unable to return to their homes as the security forces are now at the final stages of cleaning up the area.

“We will confirm a suitable time to allow them to go home,” said Hamza.

He added that the police are in the process of identifying the teenager who had been shot by the security forces two days ago.
