Teacher held for 'insulting' security forces in Sabah

Police have arrested a teacher for allegedly insulting the country’s security forces, who are battling Sulu insurgents in Sabah, on hisFacebook page.

The 37-year-old, a staff of a school in Tok Bali, Kelantan, was picked up last night from a house in Pasir Puteh.

NONEAccording to Kelantan police chief Jalaluddin Abd Rahman, the man was said to have frequently missed work since the end of 2012 due to pressure.

“A green bag, laptop, charger, broadband and a telephone SIM card were also confiscated,” Jalaluddin told Malay daily Sinar Harian.

Jalaluddin was earlier quoted stating that the teacher would be investigated under the Sedition Act 1948, after police receive a report on the Facebook posting.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Education Ministry would also take action against the teacher.
Ministry director Abd Ghafar Mahmud said the insulting statement had hurt the feelings of the families of the security personnel who had lost their lives in the intrusion.
Ghafar said teachers are supposed to display patriotism, but the action of the teacher had brought shame to the fraternity.
