Tian Chua to be charged over Lahad Datu 'plot' remark
PKR vice-president Tian Chua will be charged in court tomorrow over comments he allegedly made pertaining to Umno’s supposed involvement in the Lahad Datu crisis.
According to his lawyer N Surendran, the Batu MP is expected to be charged under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow morning.
Earlier, Bernama had reported that Johor police had recorded Tian Chua’s statement over the matter at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters this morning.
State police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff (left) said Tian Chua, whose real name is Chua Tian Chang, had been accompanied by three lawyers
"Please engage your brain before you speak. If you don't have anything good to say, please shut up," he was quoted saying.
He also told the news agency that to date, 318 reports had been lodged against the opposition politician for his statement implying that the Sulu incursion was an “Umno conspiracy”, meant to divert attention away from the ongoing royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on allegations of a citizenship-for-votes scheme.
Tian Chua had reportedly told this to PKR party organ Keadilan Dailyon March 1, but later clarified that he was only referring to the earlier media blackout surrounding the incident, as there were no confirmation of any attack or casualties.
