Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said that police have initiated a probe to identify the culprit behind a Facebook posting that insulted Islam.
"Investigation papers were opened yesterday and police will investigate thoroughly even though the person involved has denied he is the individual responsible for uploading the posting," he was quoted as saying in an Utusan Malaysia report today.
The police chief was referring to the religiously sensitive Facebook posting by one "Alan Tang".
The posting was of a pig head together with lemang and ketupat in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebration.
Tang, who is an aide to DAP's Stulang state assemblyperson Chen Kah Eng, described it as an attempt to "sabotage" him.
He explained that a duplicate Facebook account using his name and picture was created for the posting. He had since lodged a police report.
Meanwhile, Khalid was quoted as saying that police had also sought help from the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission to identify the culprit.
On another matter, the Perak state government, together with the Perak Islamic Religious Department and Registrar of Muslim Converts have filed an appeal against the conversion annulment of M Indira Gandhi's children to Islam.
According to New Straits Times, the notice of appeal had been served on Indira Gandhi whose ex-husband had converted their three children to Islam without her knowledge.
