Gov't identifies owner of FB page insulting Christians
The government has idetified the owner of a Facebook page that allegedly insulted Christians and mocked Jesus.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Ewon Ebin (left) said the owner's complete profile on the Internet was obtained from Cyber Security Malaysia, a cyber security specialist agency under his ministry.
In a statement yesterday, Ewon, who is also Ranau MP, said investigations also found that there were other operators on the Facebook page, one of whom has an address in Gombak.
This, he said, follows a recent police report lodged against the Facebook page, dubbed "Semenanjung Malaysia Anti Sabah & Sarawak (Peninsula Malaysia against Sabah and Sarawak) in Kota Kinabalu.
According to Ewon further, the Facebook page had posted a picture of Jesus being hung from an electric pole, which he said could sour relations between Sabah and Sarawak communities with those in Peninsula Malaysia.
A check by Malaysiakini found the Facebook page, which has 584 likes, contains postings that chastise Sabahans, Sarawakians and Christians, including referring to them by animal names.
Furthermore, it also had pictures that were potentially religiously offensive, such as a frog and monkey being nailed to a Christian cross.
However, the Facebook page has since become inaccessible.
