Monorail for KK?

Congested Kota Kinabalu needs an alternative transportation system, says Chief Minister Musa Aman.
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government is undertaking a detailed study to improve the public transport system in the state, including the suitability of a monorail system proposed for areas around Kota Kinabalu city centre.
Chief Minister Musa Aman said the state was aware of the need to improve its public transportation system especially in the long term.
“We will give attention accordingly including monorail transportation. We   extended this application (to the federal government) earlier on as we are aware that in Kota Kinabalu city, roads and traffic are congested so we think we must have new concepts that we can create that are suitable for the city,” he said.
Musa, who is also state Finance Minister, said this when winding-up the one-day debate on the First Supplemental Supply Bill (2013) at the State Legislative Assembly at the State Assembly Building in Likas near here today.
He said the state government also planned to build more flyovers for the same purpose.
“We have asked for allocation from the federal government and may be soon we will announce the addition of one or two more flyovers to reduce traffic congestion in Kota Kinabalu city,” he said.
On the call for the government to build more low-cost houses in areas around Kota Kinabalu city, Musa said the government was making efforts to provide such properties through Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd including those built under the People’s Housing Project (PPR).
