Johor's Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching has revealed a huge discrepancy between figures provided by minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim and a media report on the department’s advertisement expenditure.
In a parliamentary reply, Shahidan said his department spent RM102.9 million between 2008 and 2013 on advertisement and publicity materials.
But Teo referred to data provided by international media-buying agency Vizeum Media, which stated that the PM's Department had spent RM264 million in the first half of 2013.
“(It is) five times more than it did in 2012. This is a huge discrepancy,” remarked Teo in a Facebook posting.
If Vizeum Media’s data was accurate, Teo said it was impossible that the PM’s Department had only spent RM102.9 million over the past five years.
As such, she questioned whether there was intention to mislead the parliament and general public in Shahidan’s parliamentary reply.
