Perkasa condemns PAS for not showing up for Allah case

Malay rights group Perkasa condemned PAS for not turning up at the Court of Appeal today to show support for Putrajaya over the "Allah" issue.
The Catholic Church failed in its bid at the Court of Appeal to strike out an appeal by Putrajaya to reverse a High Court ruling that allowed Herald, a weekly publication by the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, to use the word "Allah".
"We don't accept a party that purports to be championing Islam which can’t come here to support the government but can find time to demonstrate against the rock band Metallica over its concert.
"Instead, some have said that this issue is not as serious as the crisis in Egypt. To Perkasa, that is not a responsible statement," complained its secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali, in response to the move by PAS Youth to gather at the Metallica concert last night in protest.
Syed Hassan also said he was pleased with the court decision today, and was hopeful that the same will happen when the government's appeal is heard on September 10.
"Perkasa is thankful for the decision and we hope for the same on September 10. We also urge all Muslims, immaterial of their political affiliation, to unite on the Allah cause," he said when met at the Court of Appeal today.
Syed Hassan condemned the Catholic Church for bringing the matter to court, adding that the word was exclusive to Muslims.
"This should not have been brought to court because to us, Allah is only for Muslims.
"However, in the name of democracy, we have to go through with this," Syed Hassan stated.
Syed Hassan rebuked PAS for its couldn't-care-less attitude, and for giving more importance to issues that were unrelated to Malaysia.
Jati president Datuk Dr Hasan Ali (pic) meanwhile said Muslims should not celebrate as there is an impending appeal on September 10.
"That will be the day of reckoning and I hope we can be united in this matter," Hasan said.
Non-governmental organisation Pembela chairman Dr Yusri Mohamad also hoped that the September 10 decision would favour the Muslim community.
