Johor wanita Umno rejects parochialism in contest for wanita Umno head

JOHOR BAHARU- The Johor wanita Umno will reject any element of parochialism in the election for the post of wanita Umno head in the party polls in October.

Johor wanita Umno head Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain said the state wanita placed priority on the interests of the party and emphasised that election for the post would be based on the merit system.

This was part of the efforts by the Johor wing to strengthen the party, she said.

“So far, we hear that Shahrizat Abdul Jalil will defend her post while Azalina Othman Said had voiced her intention to contest the post too.

“Although Azalina is a Johorian, we will elect the candidate for the post of wanita head based on merit and we have no element of parochialism in the election this time,” she told reporters after attending a meeting of the state Umno liaison committee, here today.

“We support Shahrizat”

The Johor wanita Umno had previously stated its support for Shahrizat as the movement’s head and at the same time appreciated the efforts carried out by Shahrizat to strengthen the party.

Sharifah Azizah conceded that there had been no disputes in the movement since Shahrizat took over as the head and she had in fact succeeded in increasing support from the voters in the last general election.
