Reports about police personnel questioning non-Muslim pupils of SK Seri Pristana without the presence or permission of their parents/guardian are disturbing.
It is saddening that parents of 10 non-Muslim pupils will follow the footsteps of parents of 3 other school children to transfer their children out of the said primary school after alleged severe bullying by teachers, school-mates and questioning by the police following the “shower room canteen” debacle.
What signal are the Headmaster, teachers and PIBG of SK Seri Pristana sending to would-be pupils and the public when following the press conference by the concerned parents of the affected pupils, it appears that the innocent children have been driven out of school owing to the harassment they faced from the very same authorities who betrayed the trust they were entrusted with.
In fact, educationists should serve as mentors and caring protectors of children instead of scaring them away from school and education. Please protect, nurture and provide pupils a safe and conducive learning environment free of harassment and discrimination.
The best days of our lives
Therefore, the school premises is not a place for school authorities to abuse their power to persecute pupils simply because they are unhappy over the storm of bad press following the photos which went viral on Facebook. Doing so only indicates vindictiveness on their part and teaching other unaffected pupils that it is acceptable to hound minorities rather than moving forward from a misdeed.
Bukit Aman must step in
There are laws which protect the rights of minor children. In fact, the Headmaster or the Senior Assistant should have contacted the parents upon being informed or discovering that the police were going to speak to the children.
The parents are justified to feel concerned over an unidentified man who accompanied the Headmaster to take photos of their children without their permission. I urge the OCPD of Sg Buloh police station to open investigation papers as to what the photos will be used for. The Ministry of Education should also question and take action against the Headmaster for all his actions. Otherwise, one cannot blame the public for perceiving that the Headmaster is singling out non-Muslim pupils.
What is police finding on death & kidnap threat issued against Ms Guneswari?
Meanwhile, as the threats were issued via SMS, the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) should execute their jurisdiction and work together with the police to determine the culprit(s) responsible for the threats.
In fact, it is time to put a full stop to the entire situation from worsening before it jeopardises national unity. Thus, I urge all the related authorities including the Education Ministry, PDRM, etc to take prompt action to halt all these nonsense.
