Selangor accepts 3-month challenge to solve water woes

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said he and the state government accepted the challenge thrown by Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili to seek a solution to the Langat 2 water treatment plant project within three months.
Abdul Khalid said he had already initiated a meeting and sent state government officers to meet their counterparts in the ministry to determine the terms and points of discussion for the meeting.
Yesterday, Ongkili said the ministry recommended that the Langat 2 project, which would be built to process raw water from Pahang, must go on but the federal and state governments must reach a consensus on the Selangor water industry restructuring negotiations.
"The ball is now in the court of the federal ministry," Abdul Khalid said in a press conference after chairing the State Executive Council meeting here today.
On the fate of Selangor students in Egypt, he said the state government would cooperate with the federal government which had initiated efforts to bring back students, using commercial flights.
Currently, there are 1,479 Selangor students who are furthering their studies in Egypt in various courses.
Abdul Khalid said the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) had set up an integrated operation centre to handle the safety and well-being of Selangor students in Egypt since August 19.
The round-the-clock operation room for the centre is located at Level 3, Islamic Education Division Meeting Room, North Tower Sultan Idris Shah Building here.
Parents or guardians of the students who want to get an update on the latest situation in Egypt can contact Ustaz Ahmad Bustaman, the head of the operation centre, or his staff at 03-55143576/3439/3520/3534.
Abdul Khalid has also requested students who returned to Selangor from Egypt to register with Jais through the email, opsmesir@jais.gov.my.
"Students are required to provide their full name, MyKad number, phone number and recent address to facilitate Jais in preparing the data of Selangor students," he said. - Bernama
