Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir regrets that an Umno Wanita member was allegedly assaulted during polling for the Sungai Limau state seat by-election.
"The effect of the alleged provocation whether by an outsider or people in the constituency is the same as it impacts negatively on Barisan Nasional voters.
"We won't respond in kind, no need to react. This stand needs great patience. PAS had loudly announced its peaceful political campaign and we had hoped it could be interpreted accordingly but the reverse occurred.
"We were not prejudiced, hoping the by-election will take place in a prudent and courteous atmosphere," he said at Pekan Simpang Tiga, Sungai Limau today.
Seputeh Wanita Umno division chief Azizah Abdul Samad today lodged a report at the Yan district police headquarters over the punching of a Batu Umno division Wanita committee member Norsidah Abu Bakar allegedly by a PAS Youth member at Sekolah Ulu Sedaka.
Meanwhile, Mukhriz said PAS was still using intimidations to deter voters from coming out to vote.
"The situation became uncontrollable. Four, five incidents which took place could have been avoided but they still took place to invoke fear on the voters," he said.
He said another tactic used by PAS supporters was to go out in a big group and park their vehicles by the roadsides so that the place became congested to make it difficult for voters.
Mukhriz hoped police would taken immediate action to overcome traffic problems and prevent congestion.
He told reporters at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Besar near Yan today that there should not be any provocation in the by-election.

Police confirm receiving report
Meanwhile, Kedah police have confirmed receiving a report on the alleged punching of a Wanita Umno member by a PAS supporter when canvassing for votes in Yan this morning.
Kedah police chief Ahmad Ibrahim said the report was lodged by Seputeh Wanita Umno division chief Azizah Abdul Samad and the victim, Bandar Baru Sentul (1C) Wanita Umno branch chief, Norsidah Abu Bakar today, at 11am.
To date, no arrest had been made and police were investigating the case, he told a media conference in Yan today.
“She was said to have been punched in the face, in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Sedaka, at 8.45am. She had been given outpatient treatment at Yan Hospital. We are seeking to identify the culprit,” he said.
Ahmad urged supporters of both parties to comply with the directives of the police and advice from the Election Commission to ensure a smooth by-election.
Meanwhile, Norsidah, 50, who is also Umno Batu division committee member, said she and other Barisan Nasional canvassers, had taken up position in front of the school.
She said a group of men allegedly from PAS turned up and ordered them to move away claiming that the spot belonged to them.
“They became violent when we refused to comply and police had to defuse the situation.
“Suddenly a man, in his 30s, punched me strongly in the eye with his fist which was wrapped in a PAS flag. I fell to the ground and almost blacked out,” she said.
She was then taken to the Ulu Sedaka Health Clinic in front of the school before being rushed to the Yan Hospital to receive outpatient treatment.
“I was injected with painkiller and told to come back if my eye still hurts in the next 24 hours,” said Norsidah who had been here for the past nine days to carry out a campaign to canvas for votes in the Sungai Limau state by-election.
