Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali today applauded Umno Youth for biting back over the “celaka” remark by a DAP state assemblyperson in Penang, proclaiming it to be “sweet revenge”.
Firing off a statement that ended with "congratulations Penang Umno Youth. Perkasa loves you", the outspoken Malay rights NGO chief went the opposite direction of many who condemned the actions of the protesters.
The protesters had barged into the Penang legislative assembly building yesterday, looking for DAP Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer (right), which led to security to be beefed up at the state assembly today.
Begging to differ with Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s call that the protest may have been overdone, Ibrahim said this was the Umno Youth he knew and liked.
"I am proud to have been an ex-Umno Youth exco member back in 1982. Umno Youth then and now have not changed, we never provoke anyone or find trouble. But if other parties are 'selling' trouble, then Umno Youth should buy it," Ibrahim said in a press statement.
Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow strongly condemned the intrusion into the state assembly today.
State assembly Opposition Leader Jahara Hamid apologised on behalf of the "intruders" today, but asked that Rayer does the same.
Ibrahim (right) also hit out at MCA for not speaking up first, equating the BN party with its rival DAP.
He added in his acerbic style: "When a non-Muslim insults Muslims and Malays, MCA keeps quiet. By right, it is Penang MCA that should strike back first. Why so quiet?"
"Look at the mirror. MCA sounds just like DAP (to be liked) but still, it is not wanted. The Malays will also reject MCA if it keeps behaving like this."
The angry Umno Youth members were allegedly sparked off by Rayer calling Umno "celaka" (damned).
However, Rayer maintained that his remark was not aimed at the party but only as a response to Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican Naina Merican and two other Umno leaders who kicked up a ruckus over a PKR protest early this year.
In January, Machang Bubuk assemblyperson Lee Khai Loon had led a 'I love kangkung' flash mob, which Umno then said was an insult to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Ibrahim said DAP had "crossed the boundary" and deserved to get kicked.
"Be a gentleman. They have their heads in the sand, but backsides poking out. Whoever sees such backsides, just kick them!" Ibrahim said.
