'Shock' over MB swap made Roslee quit Umno

Bukit Besi assemblyperson Roslee Daud may have set the record for the shortest period served as an Independent assemblyperson after "shock" prompted him to leave Umno in a huff yesterday.

Roslee earned the dubious credit when he apparently came to his senses and returned to the party about 12 hours after announcing his resignation.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in Putrajaya today, he said the sudden change of menteri besar in Terengganu left him shocked.

"However, when I thought about it, I decided to return and continue supporting Umno and BN.

"It was my own decision. I was not influenced by others," Roslee (left) said.

He stressed that he was also not influenced by former MB Ahmad Said.

'I'm sorry'

Roslee admitted that he rushed the decision and apologised for the debacle.

"My actions were hasty...

"I want to apologise to voters and Umno members in my division.

"It is over now and I will continue to fight for religion, race and country," he said.

He spoke to reporters after joining a 13-person delegation, including Terengganu Umno assemblypersons and the state legislative speaker, to meet the prime minister in Putrajaya.

He was the third Terengganu Umno assemblyperson to quit the party after Kijal representative Ahmad Said was replaced as menteri besar on Monday night.

Roslee resigned from Umno after Ahmad and Ajil assemblyperson Ghazali Taib, who left the party hours after Seberang Takir assemblyperson Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman was sworn-in as MB.

Ahmad said he quit as PM Najib rejected his request to resign after his daughter's wedding this Saturday.

At the press conference in Putrajaya, Rafiz said Ahmad and Ghazali, too, would be returning to Umno.

Ahmad and Ghazali were absent from the Putrajaya meeting, but Ahmad has called for a press conference in Kemaman at 5pm.

Also absent was Hulu Besut assemblyperson, who is ill. Razif stressed that Nawi still supports BN.
