Umno leaders must not dispute decisions made by Prime Minister and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak, Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed said today.
"As leaders, we must obey," he added when commenting on the political crisis in neighbouring Terengganu.
"Loyalty is important and should be made our practice, but if we question decisions made by our leader, the situation will not be stable," Mustapa was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Mustapa also advised Umno members not to be influenced by rumours that could adversely affect the party's struggle.
He said they should remain loyal to the party and continue to struggle for the people's interests for the sake of the party's strength.
"We want to fight for Islam, our race and the country, which supersede other interests," he added.
Ahmad Zahid warns of enemies
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded Umno members not to allow enemies, both within and outside, to destroy the party.
The Umno vice-president also noted that the loyalty of the Umno grassroots was being put to the test.
"Therefore, the party's interests should be above other interests," Zahid added.
"Do not allow elements of destruction by enemies of Umno, from within and outside, to over-power our political judgment," he added.
Zahid said Umno members at all levels should have confidence in the leadership, for the sake of the party's strength and integrity.
Yesterday morning, former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said and two other state assemblypersons resigned from Umno and declared themselves Independent members.
Since then, Bukit Besi assemblyperson Roslee Daud had retracted his resignation.
