Ambiga engages in tweet-for-tat over Isma

Former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan has criticised Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) for sowing animosity between the races.

In a twitter posting, she said: "Isma is supposedly made up of professionals. What kind of professionals are these who spew such hatred and racism?"

She also noted that Isma, which had among others courted controversy for labeling Chinese Malaysians as "intruders", defended their "ideology" by attacking others.

"Not a single thing they have said promotes peace and understanding," she added.

Her tweets on this subject elicited a response from an Isma supporter, who defended the actions of the hardline movement.

Amnan Afiq Abd Razak asked: "Speaking about our right as Muslims is racist? Defending our right as a Malay is racist?"

"Defending by attacking others is no defence!" responded Ambiga, who is also the former chairperson of electoral watchdog Bersih.

However, Amnan continued with his backing of Isma.

"Attacking what? By saying the truth? That is attacking?" he asked.

'Don't provoke our beliefs'

Far from convinced, Ambiga retorted: "I have seen no truth so far. No facts. Just outrageous statements. Why are you so scared of everybody?"

"Madam, truth can be seen when we choose to see," replied Amnan.

"We are not scared of... We are telling (others) not to provoke our beliefs," he added.

Other twitter users, however, criticised Isma describing the movement, among others, as being irrelevant and racist.

Today, Isma launched a scathing attack on DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, accusing him of wanting to "wipe out" the Malay race.
