Sarawak football fans set a police car on fire after their team crashed out of the competition yesterday.
Bernama reported that the home crowd turned unruly at the Kuching stadium when Sarawak drew 1-1 against Perak.
About 2,000 fans from both teams clashed, forcing the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) to fire teargas.
The news agency said the riot may have been caused by Perak fans when they teased the home crowd after the final whistle.
Clashes ensued with flares and firecrackers thrown onto the field, even the fencing was torn down. It then spread outside the stadium.
Sarawak football has not seen such clashes on home soil since the late 1980s.
The Star Online reported that besides the police car, three Perodua Kancils were also damaged. One was smashed while the others were overturned.
It also said a few children were injured in the clashes.
