Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (Abim) has called for the auditor-general's report on 1MDB to be removed from classification under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
This, said Abim president Mohamad Raimi Ab Rahim, is because the public needs to refer to it to verify the conclusions of the public accounts committee (PAC) report on the troubled sovereign fund.
"The call follows the PAC report on weaknesses in the administration of 1MDB tabled in Parliament on April 7.
"The tabling of the PAC report (which was publicised to the general public) has raised all sorts of questions from the concerned citizens of Malaysia," said Mohamad Raimi.
"If the auditor-general's report is declassified to become a public document, this will allow MPs, government authorities and the public to use it as a reference point against the PAC report," he said in a statement today.
While the PAC report has been tabled, Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia told the House the auditor-general's report could not be tabled yet as it was still classified under OSA, citing the auditor-general's response on the matter.
