Bashah submits 'Kedah Declaration' to Najib

Kedah Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah today met Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to submit the ‘Kedah Declaration’ in support of the latter as prime minister and Umno president.
The declaration also demands that the party’s supreme council and disciplinary board sack members who are involved with the Citizens’ Declaration, as they are said to be in cahoots with the opposition.
Among those named in the Kedah Declaration is Najib’s former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Bashah’s predecessor, former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir.
The declaration also demands that the government terminate Umno-BN members who support the Citizens’ Declaration from their posts with government-linked companies (GLCs) and the government.
“We denounce strongly the actions of several Umno leaders who still hold posts, especially Muhyiddin and Mukhriz, who had conspired with the opposition to topple Najib from his post as prime minister – a post for which he was appointed democratically,” read the declaration.
Met by reporters later, Bashah claimed that the declaration has the support of all Umno divisions in Kedah.
“We made the declaration today with the attendance of all Umno division leaders, assemblypersons, parliamentarians and senators, including the state Youth, Wanita and Puteri chiefs.
“The declaration was made to tell the people that Kedah is with the prime minister,” he said.
After the Kelantan Declaration was signed by Kelantan Umno leaders in support of Najib last month, it seems that Kedah has followed in the footsteps of the current PAS-led state.

These declarations were in response to the Citizens’ Declaration, led by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which was signed by various prominent political and civil society leaders demanding for Najib’s resignation as premier. -Mkini
