Pagoh Umno has rubbished a call by certain quarters for the division to be suspended and cleansed of rebel elements.
Bernama reported acting chief Ismail Mohamad as saying that Pagoh Umno still exists, and urged all quarters to understand that the division's struggle is for the party, and not individuals.
Ismail was responding to Pagoh Umno Action Group chairman Zaaba Aman who wants Pagoh Umno to be suspended and taken over by Umno headquarters, in an effort to 'clean up' the division.
Zaaba, who is also Sri Ledang Utara Umno branch chief, said Pagoh Umno would not be at peace if Ismail's stand on former division chief Muhyiddin Yassin's sacking is not in line with the federal and Johor Umno leadership.
Muhyiddin and former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir were sacked from Umno on June 24 for working with the opposition.
The next day, Ismail who had gone from deputy division chief to the acting head, attended a press conference in which Pagoh Umno rejected the sacking and voiced their support for Muhyiddin.
Speaking to reporters in Larkin today, Ismail also defended his position as acting division chief.
"When Muhyiddin was sacked, the other group must understand that the vacuum will be filled by the deputy and if the deputy is sacked, it will go to the vice. No leader can remain forever."
He added although Muhyiddin had been sacked from Umno his contributions should be recognised and that he should not be insulted. --Mkini
