Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos has announced that he will hold a rally to counter Bersih 5 if that ever happens.
“If that happens we will come down with the second version of Himpunan Merah (Red Rally).
“We expect to have more than 300,000 people... We will make KL red.
“We will do our protest on the same day and hour as theirs,” Jamal, who was accompanied by about 30 people, said at a press conference outside the Sogo shopping mall in downtown KL.
Yesterday, Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah announced that Bersih 5 was on the cards, following the US Department of Justice’s damning lawsuits regarding 1MDB.
The lawsuits claimed more than US$3.5 billion had allegedly been siphoned from 1MDB, and that a high ranking public servant 'Malaysian Official 1' had received US$731 million of the misappropriated funds.
Jamal however said this doesn't prove anything and that the Bersih 5 rally was uncalled for.
He then described Maria, her predecessor Ambiga Sreenevasan, and Dr Mahathir Mohamad as dajjal (antichrists), and dared them to hold the rally and prove they have public support.
He said the outcome of last month's Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections proved that Mahathir doesn't command as much support as he believed.
Meanwhile, Jamal said he also believed that the former premier was behind the DOJ civil forfeiture suits.
He also dismissed a question on whether the government should take action against 'Malaysian Official 1' if he was proven guilty, saying the contents of the DOJ filings were just allegations. - Mkini
