Umno must win on its own strength in the next general election and not based on the disunity among the opposition, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
Hence, he urged Umno members at all levels to work hard and make preparation to face the opposition head on.
"In the simulation we did now, we will see the level of support towards Umno when all the votes against us are mixed. If we can still win, we are not in a comfortable position but strong.
"But if we find we still depend on the opposition's disunity, we are not in a comfortable position. Today they may be split but tomorrow they may be reunited," he said.
He was speaking at the closing of the Kelantan Umno Convention which was attended by 2,500 Umno members in Kota Baru today.
Also present were Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairperson Mustapa Mohamed, Kelantan Umno liaison deputy chairperson Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki.
On the chances of the young people and professionals to be in Umno, Khairy who is also Youth and Sports Minister, said the party was always opening its door wide to them.
However Khairy said they must work hard and display high determination to be accepted not only by the leadership but also at the grassroot level.
Earlier, Mustapa in his winding up speech, proposed seven resolutions comprising the strengthening of solidarity, complying to decision of the leadership, loyal to the party's cause, people caring and carrying out rejuvenation of Umno.
