Husni may face Umno axe for questioning 1MDB - Bersatu leader

Mounting criticism of former second finance minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah from his Umno colleagues may signal he is lined up to be sacked from the party.
Former Gopeng Umno Wanita chief Hamidah Osman, who is now a coordinator in splinter party Bersatu, said she would not be surprised at this as the former minister is increasingly under fire.
"Looking at the situation today, I would say Umno has lost all reason. Anyone who goes against the grain would surely be victimised," she was reported saying in Sinar Harian today.
"I would not be surprised if he is sacked because we can see they are starting to criticise him after raising the question (of the 1MDB scandal). Other things may follow," she was reported saying.
Husni (BN-Tambun) raised questions about the 1MDB scandal during the budget debate last week.
This is the first time the former minister had addressed the scandal after quitting cabinet in June.
Yesterday, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said Husni and two other former ministers who had been sacked from the party, former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, former rural and regional development minister Mohd Shafie Apdal, will be investigated under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972 for allegedly revealing government secrets discussed during cabinet meetings.
'Umno must plug criticisms'
Hamidah, who was herself sacked last year, said she expects Husni will be made an example of to stem growing criticisms of the 1MDB scandal from within Umno's ranks.

"Because if they keep quiet, then (it's an admission) that what Husni had questioned is correct, and then more will speak up about 1MDB," she was reported saying.
She said the scandal has "opened everyone's eyes" and "demolished Umno's credibility" in governing the country.
"If previously there were those who called (allegations concerning) 1MDB as mere slander purposely aimed at the government, we now see the situation has changed, and the people's eyes are now wide open." - Mkini
