A two-year-old girl is seriously hurt after falling to the first floor from an escalator at a shopping mall in Bukit Jambul, Penang, yesterday.
Utusan Online reported that the girl was sitting on her father's shoulders when the incident occurred at Bukit Jambul Complex about 6.30pm.
The report, quoting police sources, said it was understood that the girl fell after her father, who was going up to the first floor of the mall, panicked when he saw his daughter’s hand was caught on the side of the escalator (pemegang escalator).
"In his panicked state, the girl was said to have slipped from her father's grip and fell to the first floor of the shopping mall.
''The girl is now receiving treatment at Penang Hospital intensive care unit after she suffered from brain haemorrhage and a cracked skull,'' said the source.
At the same time, Timur Laut district police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid has confirmed receiving a report of the incident and said that investigations are ongoing under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. -Mkini
