Why only KLCC, destroy KLIA, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya too, prods Mahathir

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad hit back at Multimedia and Communications Minister Salled Said Keruak for suggesting that should the government want to destroy the ex-PM's legacy, they would tear down the iconic KLCC.

 

"What have I done? I raised him to be Sabah chief minister last time, But now he is angry at me. He advised the government not to let any of my legacy remain. Destroy it all. Demolish KLCC.
 

"But why only KLCC, I built the Prime Minister's Department, even the Prime Minister's residence, demolish it all, demolish Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, demolish it all," said Mahathir during his speech at the Amanah mega ceramah in Shah Alam tonight.

Mahathir said that the powers that be are afraid that people might remember him and his legacy.
 

"But I never asked people to remember me

 

"Was there anything named after me?

"I forbade it (when I was in office)."
 

Indeed Mahathir said that during his tenure in office, he expressly forbade the naming of schools, streets and buildings for living ministers and officials.

 

He related that under his watch, the only way a minister's or official's name can be used for a street, school or building was upon their death.

 

In the same speech at the mega ceramah to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Amanah Selangor, Mahathir repeated his claims that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's rule where "cash is king" is bad for Malaysia.
 

He also again called for the federal opposition to unite under one banner and field one candidate against the BN, noting with an insider's insight that this was one of the formulas of the ruling coalition's success, where one candidate is supported by 14 component parties.
 

Mahathir said that only by emulating this, and engaging in one-on-one electoral battles can the opposition hope to defeat their mortal enemy, the BN.
 

Last Thursday, Salleh denied Mahathir's claim that the current administration wants to erase his legacy by destroying national car manufacturer Proton.

The communications and multimedia minister said if the allegation is true, numerous other legacies of the former prime minister could have been erased.

"If the government wants to wipe out his legacy, for certain KLCC would have been demolished," said Salleh.

KLCC, like KLIA, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya were the brainchild of Mahathir or at least conceived under his tenure as prime minister.-Mkini
