KUALA LUMPUR: In a last attempt to serve Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos legal papers on a defamation suit, Bersih 2.0 Chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah will advertise in newspapers as a substituted form of service.
“We will advertise in the papers,” she said. “He refused to be served.”
She added the advertisement would be in Bahasa Malaysia papers.
The Sungai Besar Umno divisional chief reportedly refused to meet Maria’s lawyers to accept the writ of summons.
The rights advocate wants Jamal to turn up in court and show the evidence he has on Bersih 2.0 being infiltrated by a terrorist group.
“If he does not appear, he’s a liar.”
Maria’s lawyer Melissa Sasidaran said they tried three times, since the lawsuit was filed, to meet Jamal but to no avail.
The Bersih 2.0 chief sued Jamal last month after the latter claimed that Bersih 2.0 was an agent of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.
He made the allegations during a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) and Bukit Aman.
She said her reputation was tarnished by Jamal. His statement meant she had abetted the terrorist group.
Maria sent a letter of demand, asking Jamal to apologise within 48 hours.
Jamal held a press conference the next day to say he would not apologise.
He also flushed the letter of demand down a toilet.
