A student from a school in Butterworth is currently in a critical condition after jumping off the third floor of the school building in an alleged suicide attempt.
According to a report by The New Straits Times, the Form Four student is believed to have gone to the third floor of one of the school blocks without anyone’s knowledge at around 7.30am on Wednesday.
The daily reported that the girl is believed to be hanging from a railing before she fell.
A teacher at the school reportedly heard a loud thud and upon investigation, found the girl lying on the ground unconscious.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azmi Adam told the daily that the girl was immediately rushed to the hospital and is currently in a critical condition at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.
ACP Azmi told the NST that the case is being investigated under Section 309 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide.
