Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that red-shirt leader Jamal Md Yunos should shower 15 times a day because he is "dirty".
"Bersih is clean enough.
"The dirty one is Jamal. He should shower 15 times a day.
"(You can) smell the stink from afar," Mahathir said in a press conference at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya today.
He was responding to Jamal, who was earlier released from police remand today.
Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief, had said that he wanted to launch a new campaign called "Bersih 7" to "save Selangor".
He had also said that he had not showered in four days, the entirety of his remand period.
Mahathir also responded to several Umno ministers who said that Mahathir's involvement in the Bersih 5 rally last Saturday was the reason for the lower turnout compared to Bersih 4.
"Because the capability of our ministers now to count up to 1,000 is limited, so when it is more than 1,000 they couldn't figure it out," he said.
Claiming there were 100,000 protesters at the Bersih 5 rally, he said the ministers could look at pictures of the crowd, zoom in and count.
Malaysiakini estimates that there were about 40,000 people at the rally at its peak.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak had said Mahathir joining Bersih was the reason for attendance dropping by nearly 97 percent.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had also sarcastically congratulated Mahathir for hijacking the rally. -Mkini
