Ipoh City Council and NGOs help pay for couples' special day.
PETALING JAYA: Orang Asli newly-to-be-weds were among 10 couples from different races who came together for a mass wedding in Ipoh yesterday, paid for with the help of the Ipoh City Council and local NGOs.
Sin Chew Daily reported that the mass wedding at Kampung Kewawat, Ipoh, was organised for couples who could not afford to hold their own wedding ceremonies.
Besides the ceremony, the City Council and civil groups also sponsored their wedding dresses and photography sessions.
The daily reported that the couples were dressed in traditional and modern wedding outfits for their special day.
Guests who attended the weddings took lots of pictures of the diverse couples.
Mayor Zamri Man was quoted saying the council will continue to organise the 1Malaysia-like wedding ceremonies next year.
“I thank the civil societies for their efforts to come up with such a plan,” he said.
Zamri added that the council wanted to realise the couples’ dreams of holding a lovely wedding ceremony.
“We wanted to give them an unforgettable wedding,” he said.-FMT
