MELAKA: Authorities have stumbled upon a mother and her seven-year-old son who sleep in an abandoned burger stall.
It is learnt that they had been sleeping and taking shelter inside the tiny compartment for two months, which is located at Balai Panjang here.
He was spotted by The Star team while on an assignment at the area, who then alerted Kesidang assemblyman Allex Seah to their situation.
The boy was later taken by Welfare Department officers to be sheltered at a home.
The boy, from a broken family, had been living with his 33-year-old mother after his father was convicted for theft three years ago.
The boy, who is not schooling, has four older siblings who are currently placed at Welfare Department homes.
Melaka Anti-Drug Agency's (AADK) enforcement officers, who were also present during Seah's visit, also found that the boy's mother was positive for drugs.
AADK later took the boy's mother, who is seven months pregnant, for rehabilitation. -Star
