Let women administer Amanah party matters, men can handle the govt, says Wanita chief

SHAH ALAM: Parti Amanah Negara should leave the administration of the party to the women while the men can see to the governance of the country, says its Wanita chief Aiman Athirah Al-Jundi.

"The men can go take care of the ministers' offices but the party matters and offices, hand it over to the women," she said.

She opined that there was "no rigidity in politics ... but there is lots of patriarchy in politics".

"However, women should also realise that this is because there is no readiness from women party leaders to take an active role and hold positions.

"The opportunities to hold party positions are given by the male leaders but there is a reluctance from the women.

"The women should take the attitude of taking over leadership wholly from the grassroots itself," said Aiman.

The senator said this at the winding-up session of the Amanah National Convention 2019 on Dec 8.

Earlier, her predecessor Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, who is also Seri Serdang assemblyman, lambasted the men in the party for depending on women to get the votes but sidelining them once they win.

"Women do all the work – going from door to door – to get votes during the elections, but men get all the limelight. Do not wait until we have to move resolutions to force women to be recognised in the party," said Dr Siti Mariah, who got a standing ovation for pushing for women's rights in the party.
