All postpaid and prepaid customers of Celcom, Digi, Maxis and U Mobile will receive 1GB of free high-speed Internet daily during the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO), starting April 1.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in a statement today said the free data was for utilisation from 8 am to 6 pm.
Other special packages included free calls to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, National Operation Management Centre and state health departments.
The initiatives are among special packages worth RM600 million under the RM250 billion people-centric economic stimulus package (Prihatin) announced by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today to help people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“These telecommunications companies are also committed to investing RM400 million until the second quarter of this year to enhance its coverage and capacity in order to maintain a reliable, robust and high-quality network,” it said.
“The investments are also to improve the coverage and capacity of the networks at critical sites such as hospitals, government agencies, enforcement agencies and media centres,” it added.
MCMC was confident the initiatives would alleviate the burden of the people affected by Covid-19 while ensuring continuous connectivity for the people to carry out daily tasks efficiently.
Meanwhile, the commission also said that major post and courier service providers would offer delivery service of no more than one kilogramme at RM5 excluding tax for domestic delivery services for six months beginning April 15.
It said the rate was only offered to users registered on the digital portals of each postal and courier service provider, aimed at increasing the efficiency of entrepreneurs in managing delivery and promoting the use of cashless methods.
