Salahuddin: No decision on Harapan Plus’ PM candidate yet

Malaysiakini

According to Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub, Pakatan Harapan and its allies have yet to reach a consensus on a prime minister candidate.
This is despite an initial target for a decision today.
Contacted by Malaysiakini this evening, Salahuddin (above) said discussions were still underway.
“We are still waiting, we will make a decision soon,” he said, sidestepping the question when asked for a reason for the delay.
Salahuddin shared there was no deadline for a decision, only that more meetings on the conundrum would be held “soon”.
Meanwhile, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil (photo) said that an “official statement” on the matter was in the works but stopped short of saying when it would be issued.
An aide to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim earlier denied a news report claiming Harapan Plus - an alliance comprising Amanah, PKR, DAP, Warisan and the four MPs aligned to Dr Mahathir Mohamad - had decided to name Mahathir as its PM candidate and Anwar his deputy.
The Free Malaysia Today article further claimed the coalition would allow the disputed Bersatu chairperson to rule until the end of 2020 provided there is a written agreement to hand over the reins to Anwar.
Weeks after hinting that they had the numbers to mount a counter-coup on Perikatan Nasional, momentum appears to have been halted by a stalemate over who should be the opposition bloc’s PM candidate.
Over the past week, Mahathir’s ally Maszlee Malik stipulated that Anwar had no “sole right” to be the PM candidate as Harapan needed Mahathir’s influence to secure enough MPs and return to power.
This prompted brickbats from PKR. - Mkini
