Umno’s Parit MP Mohd Nizar Zakaria (above) has been named the new chairperson of the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).
LPPKN, a department under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, announced the appointment on its official website and Facebook page yesterday.
It also advises the government on policies and programmes related to such issues.
Nizar represented Parit from 2008 to 2013, and won the seat again in GE14.
From 2013 to 2018, he was the Belanja assemblyperson and a member of the Perak executive committee for the Islamic education, human development, entrepreneurship and cooperatives development portfolio.
Nizar takes over from Dr Narimah Awin, who was appointed by the Pakatan Harapan administration back in March 2019.
A medical doctor, Narimah was previously the Family Health Development director at the Health Ministry before she retired in 2007.
From 2008 to 2013, she had also served as a regional advisor for maternal and reproductive health at the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia regions. - Mkini
