'Surely untrue' - Mohamaddin reiterates not defecting to PN amid lobbying

Malaysiakini

Warisan's Lahad Datu MP Mohamaddin Ketapi has reiterated that he won't be defecting to Perikatan Nasional (PN) amid lobbying.
This comes after Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal, who is also the president of Warisan, claimed former minister Anifah Aman had lobbied Mohamaddin on behalf of PN to defect.
However, Anifah downplayed his attempts to court Mohamaddin, stating that Mohamaddin was only seeking advice from him on Sabah matters.
Asked about the continued speculation despite a joint-statement by Warisan MPs pledging loyalty to their party, Mohamaddin (above) reiterated that talks of his defection were untrue.
"If it’s a rumour then it is surely untrue.
"Rumours come from every direction which cannot be determined," he told Malaysiakini.
On June 10, all eight MPs from Warisan denied reports that some of them were on the verge of defecting.
"We firmly deny such baseless rumours and wish to make clear that the said report and statements are entirely false.
"MPs from Warisan have full confidence in the leadership of Shafie Apdal, who is also the Semporna MP and we continue to stand firmly behind with our chief minister through these trying times for our nation," said the eight.
The statement was signed by Mohamaddin, Liew Vui Keong (Batu Sapi), Darell Leiking (Penampang), Azis Jamman (Sepanggar), Isnaraissah Munirah (Kota Belud), Ma’mun Sulaiman (Kalabakan), Ahmad Hassan (Papar) and Rozman Isli (Labuan).
Shafie (photo) himself is the ninth MP representing Warisan in Parliament.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's PN government only has a three-seat majority in the 222-member Dewan Rakyat.
Amid a counter-coup attempt by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin is attempting to bolster his thin majority by courting opposition MPs.
The Pakatan Harapan government collapsed in late February after Muhyiddin pulled the party out of the coalition government.
Muhyiddin was sworn in as the new prime minister on March 1 after Mahathir refused to lead a new coalition he put together comprising Bersatu, BN, PAS, GPS, PBS and STAR.
Mahathir had indicated he planned to take Bersatu back to Harapan.
However, Bersatu, which is presently controlled by Muhyiddin, has declared Mahathir and his allies' membership in the party void for siding with the opposition. - Mkini
