PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested 11 individuals, including a factory manager, in a raid on a palm oil processing factory in Rawang, Selangor, over the pollution of Sungai Kundang.

Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat said the 11 men, three locals and eight migrant workers at the factory, were detained during the 3pm raid at Kundang Jaya in Rawang yesterday.

“Police have also confiscated several documents as well as the equipment that is believed to have caused the water pollution. All detainees have been remanded for seven days from Oct 27 to Nov 2,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier today, three men, including a company director, were also remanded to facilitate investigations into the pollution at Sungai Kundang.

The company director, aged 67, and two workers of a palm oil mill were arrested at 3pm yesterday for investigation under Section 430 of the Penal Code for allegedly “committing mischief by causing a diminution in the supply of water for human beings and animals”.

According to reports, preliminary investigation by the Selangor Water Management Authority found that the pollution was caused by a biodiesel substance, suspected to be from the Kundang Jaya industrial area.

Last week, the Selangor Water Management Authority detected the odour pollution in Sungai Kundang, a river basin of Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat, with early action preventing fresh water disruptions in the Klang Valley. - FMT
