Covid-19: New record high of 869 cases, 38 deaths in Sabah over 10 days

 


COVID-19 | The country has recorded 869 new cases of Covid-19 as of noon today, marking another record high.

All these cases were local infections, with 224 linked to prison clusters.

Leading indicators in brief:

Active cases = 6,886↑ (Rose for 12th straight day, new record set)

Patients in intensive care = 91 ↓ (8 less than yesterday)

Intubated patients = 30 ↓ (1 less than yesterday)

Deaths = 4 ↑

All four deaths were in Sabah, which also recorded 451 new cases

This is the tenth consecutive day that the Borneo state has reported fatalities, with 38 in total.

The four new deaths are as follows:

  • Patient 11,860, Malaysian male, 78, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

  • Patient 14,976, Malaysian male, 88, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

  • Patient 16,652, Malaysian female, 71, passed away at the Tawau Hospital, Sabah

  • Patient 19,209, foreign male, 53, passed away at the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan, Sabah.

Selangor has 159 cases, Kuala Lumpur (15), and Putrajaya (two).

Of noted clusters, the Utama cluster, linked to the 1 Utama mall, detected 42 new cases making the total 177.

Penang also recorded a spike with 189 cases - of which 186 were linked to the Remand Prison and Seberang Perai Prison clusters.

A breakdown of the sources of today's cases are as follows:

There were 5 new clusters announced today.

The Teduh cluster in Lahad Datu has 11 positive cases in total. The index case had a history of travel to Semporna. Results are pending for 524 people.

The Menara cluster has 33 cases in total spanning Selangor (Gombak, Petaling Klang, Sepang, Hulu Langat), Kuala Lumpur (Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa, Cheras), Putrajaya, and Perak (Larut, Matang, Selama). Results are pending for 114 people.

The Keladi cluster in Klang, Selangor has 26 cases. Results are pending for seven people, while 74 close contacts tested negative.

The Sentral cluster has been identified in Kepong, Cheras, and Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur and has five cases in total. The index case was the man who died in Selangor yesterday. A total of 122 close contacts have tested negative, and results are pending for eight people.

The Bah Bemban cluster has cases in Dungun, Terengganu, and Kota Kinabalu Sabah with 12 cases thus far. The index case was a Sabah returnee. A total of 210 close contacts have tested negative.

There were 302 recoveries today.
