Pantai Jerejak assemblyperson Saifuddin Nasution Ismail denies skipping the current Penang legislative assembly meeting.
The PKR secretary-general said he was present when the state budget was tabled on Monday but had to leave in the evening for a medical appointment.
"I informed (Penang chief minister) Chow (Kon Yeow) that I would be returning to Kuala Lumpur in the evening.
"I had an appointment with the Pantai Hospital for a health check-up and simultaneously a Covid-19 test," he told Malaysiakini when asked to respond to a commotion yesterday over his absence in the state legislature.
Zulkifli Ibrahim (Bersatu-Sungai Acheh) raised the matter, which prompted Dr Afif Bahardin (Bersatu-Seberang Jaya) to accuse Saifuddin of getting paid as an assemblyperson for doing nothing.
Saifuddin thanked both Zulkifli and Afif for raising the matter and said he "welcomed" it. - Mkini
