PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said the party's Sarawak chapter would have to choose whether or not to go with outgoing state leader Larry Sng's suggestion to nominate a replacement.
"There is no crisis. (Sng) suggested (a Dayak leader) because the majority (in the state) are Dayak. God willing, I will discuss this with him in a day or two.
"Sng believed that (PKR) may need a Dayak leader for the state election. I say, let the state (leaders) decide. If they need a Dayak leader, so be it.
"For now, the state leadership has asked Sng to continue (leading) at least for the interim," Anwar told reporters in Alor Setar today.
Like most political parties, the head of the state PKR chapters is appointed by the party president.
However, Anwar's practice has always been to interview the elected division heads on who they favoured as their leader.
Sng took over as Sarawak PKR chief earlier this year after his predecessor Baru Bian left the party.
On Tuesday night, the Sarawak PKR leadership council rejected Sng's resignation letter.
Sng said he was willing to be the interim leader only if the party leadership agreed with his request that he be replaced by a Dayak. - Mkini
