Call for Amanah Youth to create 50 national leaders, be capable like DAP

Amanah today revealed its long-term ambition to give birth to at least 50 party leaders capable of helming the country one day.

Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said party youth chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin was tasked to propose 500 names as cadres to the party leadership.

Of 500 cadres, the party leadership will mould 50 of them into Malay-Muslim leaders with quality to become national leaders.

"When the time comes, out of these 500 (cadres), I want 50 of them who are not just capable of leading Amanah, but also the country.

"These are individuals who (have the skill) to deliver a speech, who have a personality and are knowledgeable. They are not rubbish and can't be ridiculed," he said in his officiating speech of Amanah's 5th National Youth convention in Malacca today.

He outlined that the shortlisted candidates must be capable of discussing the economy, national philosophy and the Constitution, as well as be able to absorb emotions rather than being emotional.

Salahuddin reminded the youth members against coming to the party leadership to claim authority as respect is earned, not demanded.

In comparison, Salahuddin noted that DAP has already moulded young leaders such as Anthony Loke, Hannah Yeoh, and Yeo Bee Yin who have caught the attention of Malay scholars.

"Next year DAP will change its leadership. It's not that (DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng is not relevant, but the party constitution gives space for other people to make the transition," he said.

He added that if Loke takes over the top party post, it will be a new era for DAP.

"How old is Loke? 44 years old. Together with Loke are rising leaders like Yeoh and Yeo.

"Malay scholars who are very sensitive about Malays told me that when they see this trio, they said this is no longer DAP.

"These are the new faces. Only in their 40s, and Yeo in her 30s, they can talk about the economy, science, technology, national philosophy, and Constitution," Salahuddin said. - Mkini
