Cops probe alleged assault of migrant worker by man in police uniform

Police opened an investigation into an alleged assault on a migrant worker by a man in police uniform at a Covid-19 quarantine centre, said Seremban district police chief Mohd Said Ibrahim.

This came after a six-second video clip, which went viral on social media two days ago, showing a man in blue kicking the migrant worker.

In a statement yesterday, Mohd Said said an initial investigation showed that the incident took place in Taman Jasmin, Senawang.

"We believe the incident happened when groups of foreign workers were being taken to a Covid-19 quarantine centre," he was quoted as saying by The Star.

“A police report has been lodged and we are now looking for the victim as well as the man wearing the police uniform," he added.

During the alleged incident, the victim was sitting next to his friends while waiting for his turn to get on a bus to be taken to a quarantine centre.

Mohd Said pledged that the police will probe the case thoroughly and action will be taken against the attacker.

"We will act accordingly and there will be no compromise," he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which states that it is an offence to voluntarily cause hurt to a person. - Mkini
