BUTTERWORTH: A Myanmar national was killed when he was crushed by a crane which had overturned at a factory in Perai, last night.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Syamzul Razman Abd Halim said it received an alert at 8.23pm that a crane, which was being used at the steel factory, had overturned and fell onto a worker.
"The crane, that was being operated by another worker to transfer steel that had been produced, had broken down, and the victim was working near the bottom of the crane prior to the incident.
"The fire brigade had to use another crane and it took 45 minutes to remove the victim," he told Bernama when contacted last night.
He said the victim, in his 30s, was pronounced dead by the medical team and his body was taken to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post mortem.
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad, when contacted, confirmed the matter and said the police are conducting further investigations into the incident. - BERNAMA
