Faizal Azumu loses MB confidence vote, vows smooth transition

Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu has lost a vote of confidence in the state legislature.

A total of 48 assemblypersons voted against him, while 10 voted for him. There was one spoiled vote or abstention.

The confidence vote was initiated by Abd Manap Hashim's (BN-Pengkalan Bharu) motion. His motion was initially positioned last on the Order Paper.

The state House resolved to fast track the confidence vote after emergency motions by Salbiah Mohamed (BN-Temenggor) and Howard Lee (Pakatan Harapan-Pasir Pinji) were accepted by assembly speaker Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid.

After the vote was concluded, Faizal (PN-Chenderiang) was allowed to address the House and acknowledged the vote. He promised a smooth transition.

He thanked all assemblypersons and gave special recognition to his former allies in Pakatan Harapan.

"I miss you guys sometimes actually, seriously," he said with a chuckle.

He said he hoped his successor would continue efforts to empower women and ensure the state government and GLCs become more efficient.

"It's a great honour to serve our beloved state," he said.

Faizal was supposed to table the state's budget for 2021 today.

However, after the confidence vote, the state legislative session was postponed to next Wednesday.

This is to allow Faizal and the speaker to both meet with Sultan Nazrin Shah to inform the monarch of today's developments. - Mkini
