COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today announced that the mandatory quarantine period for travellers entering Malaysia from abroad as well as close contacts of Covid-19 patients will be reduced from 14 to 10 days.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the decision was made following a review which was first announced on Dec 4.
The decision was based on clinical data from across the globe, he added.
"To date, a number of countries have already revised their compulsory quarantine period. The United Kingdom, Germany and Belgium have reduced their quarantine period from 14 to 10 days.
"Meanwhile, France imposes a seven-day quarantine period," he said in a statement.
Noor Hisham said based on clinical scientific data, the Covid-19 infectivity rate is highest in the first week and reduces over time.
"Therefore, based on the quarantine implementation by countries around the world and also current clinical scientific reports, the observation order period for travellers from abroad and also close contacts (of Covid-19 patients) is reduced from 14 days to 10 days," he said.
Noor Hisham said the new policy will take effect tomorrow. - MKini
