TANGKAK: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has revealed that he did not agree when the previous government wanted Felda to be publicly listed under FGV Holdings Berhad (FGV).
Muhyiddin said during the Cabinet meeting at the time (2012), he was aware that Felda officers and settlers did not agree with the move.
“When it got listed under FGV, I was in the Cabinet. I told the then prime minister (I don’t have to say who) that I did not agree.
“I know Felda officers and the settlers disagreed with the move to hand over Felda to FGV for it to become a public listed company.
“The share price at the time was RM4.50, if I am not mistaken, but now it has fallen to RM1.28,” he said during a speech at a meet-up event with Pagoh residents at Felda Sri Jaya, Bukit Serampang, here today.
Muhyiddin said Pakatan Harapan (PH) then tried to table a white paper on Felda but it could not be done.
“So when Perikatan Nasional (PN) took over, we focused on Felda’s recovery. The PN government must take steps to return the rights of the original settlers.
“Before we do this, we must be sure Felda is profitable.
“Felda chairman Idris Jusoh has given his assurance that the entity will return to making profits, like it used to before, by 2023. I will hold the chairman to his word,” he said. - FMT
