KUANTAN: Patrons who visited a local chain restaurant - Taj Restaurant - in the state capital have been urged to get themselves screened to help curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Kuantan district health office in a Facebook posting late yesterday told individuals showing symptoms of fever, cough and sore throat to have themselves tested at the Indera Mahkota health clinic starting today.

"People who visited any branch owned by the Taj Restaurant chain in the district between Nov 30 and Dec 9, displaying symptoms such as fever, cough and sore throat should get themselves checked.

"Go to the Indera Mahkota health clinic for a drive-through Covid-19 test between 9am and 5pm today, and tomorrow. Always wear a face mask and bring along your own pen," read the statement, adding that the process was only an early screening to help contain the Covid-19 outbreak.

The latest development is believed to be linked with the Kuala cluster which was detected after a local chain restaurant worker here was infected.

Yesterday, the Pahang Disaster Management Committee, who identified four active clusters in Kuantan, explained that as a chain restaurant, food is being prepared at a centralised kitchen before it is distributed to branches located in town.

"Based on (risk) assessment, the Kuala cluster has a high tendency of spreading within the community," it read. - NST
