An emergency motion to discipline Shabudin Yahaya (BN-Tasek Gelugor) for a bloc vote miscount has been rejected.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun, in a rejection letter, said there was no urgency to debate the motion as Shabudin (above) had admitted to the error and apologised for it, and steps had been taken to improve the bloc voting process.
Fahmi Fadzil (Harapan-Lembah Pantai), who filed the motion, said the rejection was a technicality due to it being an emergency motion.
He told Malaysiakini that he plans to appeal the rejection.
Shabudin had mistakenly marked a supporting vote from Nazri Abdul Aziz (BN-Padang Rengas) during a bloc vote on Budget 2021 allocations for the Finance Ministry on Monday, when Nazri was in fact absent.
Fahmi in his motion said Shabudin had violated Standing Order 47(1) - which dictates that a bloc leader must write down the yays and nays during a bloc vote.
As of Wednesday, the government passed eight ministries' budgets during the committee stage - three of which were passed after a bloc vote.
