No confidence test on Johor MB yet but emergency motion still possible

Johor speaker Suhaizan Kayat said his office has not received any confidence motion to test Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad's support in the Johor state assembly, which is set to end its session for the year tomorrow.

"None," Suhaizan (above) told Malaysiakini when asked if any confidence motion was submitted to him amid speculation that Bersatu may want to exact revenge after Umno ousted Bersatu's menteri besar in Perak through a confidence vote yesterday.

Asked if it was too late for a confidence motion or whether it can be tabled as an emergency motion, Suhaizan said the latter was still possible.

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu was yesterday ousted as the Perak menteri besar after Umno initiated a confidence vote against him.

Only 10 assemblypersons supported Faizal while 48 voted against him, including 24 out of 25 Umno assemblypersons.

The motion was submitted on Nov 18 and debated in the Perak assembly on Dec 4.

Following the incident, Bersatu's Kempas assemblyperson Osman Sapian suggested that Bersatu could punish Umno by doing the same to its Johor menteri besar.

Motions normally require a notice before they are submitted to the House, making a confidence vote through a regular motion impossible at this last minute. The only alternative is through an emergency motion.

However, to date, no party has indicated a serious intention to move a confidence motion.

Earlier today, Johor Pakatan Harapan said it was closely monitoring the situation.

It has not indicated any plans for a confidence motion but instead is keeping its eye on Bersatu.

"Johor Harapan has 27 assemblypersons which is a significant number if any motion tabled in the Johor assembly.

"Johor Harapan will consider the people's interest and stability of the state when considering any motions by Bersatu assemblypersons," the state party chiefs said.

Hasni's government is made up of two coalitions, namely BN and PN.

BN has 14 assemblypersons from Umno and two from MIC while PN has 12 assemblypersons from Bersatu and one from PAS, giving them a total of 29.

The opposition Harapan has 27 assemblypersons comprising 14 from DAP, nine from Amanah and four from PKR. - Mkini
