NSC lifts EMCO at Top Glove workers' dorms

The National Security Council (NSC) has decided to lift the enhanced movement control order (MCO) previously imposed on Top Glove workers’ hostels in Klang, Selangor.

This was announced by Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement this evening.

First imposed on Nov 17, the enhanced MCO was supposed to end today.

“After 28 days of enhanced MCO, the Health Ministry finds a drop in the number of positive cases reported, and there are no more test samples awaiting results.

“All negative cases have also undergone surveillance and house-surveillance orders (HSO) for two weeks as per the Covid-19 incubation period,” he explained.

The enhanced MCO was previously imposed on the male dormitory along Jalan Abadi 1A/KU8 as well as female dormitories along Jalan Abadi 1A/KU8 and Jalan Abadi 10A/KU8.

Ismail added that 14 of Top Glove’s 28 factories in the vicinity had been allowed to reopen.

“The remaining 14 factories will be opened in stages,” he added.

The Teratai cluster, which comprises many of Top Glove workers, registered a total of 81 new cases today.

A total of 731 cases remain active and in-treatment.

Malaysia’s largest cluster has recorded a cumulative total of 5,531 cases and one death.

Ismail announced that the NSC has also decided to lift the enhanced MCO previously imposed on the Sibuga Temporary Detention Centre in Sandakan Sabah.

It was supposed the end tomorrow.

“Presently only 29 active cases Covid-19, comprising detainees and staff remain in treatment,” he said.

Longer lockdown in Lahad Datu

Meanwhile, two localities in Lahad Datu - Kampung Desa Bajau and Kampung Dasar Baru - will see their lockdowns extended to Dec 29.

The enhanced MCO there was first imposed on Dec 2 and had been scheduled to end tomorrow.

“The Health Ministry has confirmed that there are still 1,160 test samples that are still awaiting results and there is a risk of Covid-19 transmission among residents following the high number of active cases,” read Ismail’s statement.

The two villages have recorded a total of 238 Infections thus far. - Mkini
